Matriculating the Matrix: A Different Understanding of Psychic Structure, Resonance and RepressionDerbyshire Mental Health Trust and University of Leicester, martin.bhurruth{at}derbysmhservices.nhs.uk Matriculation is referred to in the sense of entry to further education and plays with the subjunctive, `What if Foulkes had conceptualized the matrices as being structure of mind?' This article constructs a group-analytic psychical structure of the individual mind made up of the Personal, Dynamic and Social Matrices. Resonance between the matrices is then recognized as a source of psychic energy with sufficient power to lift the repression barrier causing painful affects and memories to come into consciousness. This article develops Foulkes' concept of resonance.
