Finding the Capacity for Holding as a Group Analyst26 Kyverdale Road, Stoke Newington, London N16 7AH, UK This paper considers the influence of the group analyst's own self-objects on her holding capacity in the group. It describes how a therapist can, like a depressed mother, become persecuted by her group members and unable to tolerate their dependency, frustration and separateness. There are links to the intense experiences of childbirth and the early postnatal period.
