Group Psychotherapy with Manic-Depressive Patients on Lithium: Ten Years' ExperienceOutpatient Psychiatric Clinic of Dijkzigt University Hospital Since 1983 manic-depressive patients in the Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic of Dijkzigt University Hospital, Rotterdam, have received group psychotherapy as well as lithium prophylaxis. The therapeutic approach is eclectic, ranging from supportive and structuring interventions with new patients to insight-stimulating interventions with older group members. The effect is that patients become increasingly self-supporting and autonomous, while rehospitalization is reduced.
